The Inspired by… Gallery was set up five years ago to give local artists an opportunity to promote their work to a wider audience. The Your Place exhibition will build on this ethos by offering 60 artists a chance to hire space at the gallery to raise awareness and sell their artwork throughout the four week run. The gallery is part of The Moors National Park Centre which attracts over 110,000 visitors each year.
The exhibition is part of a range of events to mark the National Park’s anniversary and will follow Inspired Landscape – a showcase of new work by six of the region’s leading contemporary artists Peter Hicks, Len Tabner and William Tillyer, Joe Cornish, Stephen Gillies and Kate Jones which runs from 13 May to 17 July.
Both exhibitions are supported by an £8,000 grant from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
Sally Ann Smith, the National Park Authority’s Events and Exhibitions Coordinator, said:
“The North York Moors packs a wealth of different landscapes in a relatively small space from moorland to woodland, valleys to coast. Add in wildlife, cultural heritage and picture-postcard villages and it’s easy to see it has been an inspiration for artists for many years.
“Whether you’re a painter, potter, wood turner or photographer, if your work draws on the landscape, wildlife or maybe just the atmosphere of the North York Moors, then we’d love to hear from you.”
The deadline for submission of artwork for inclusion in the Your Place exhibition is Saturday 31 March.
Artwork for the final exhibition will be chosen by a panel of established artists including photographer Joe Cornish, glass artist Kate Jones and landscape painter Peter Hicks.
